SC2 - Diamondback Portrait Finally Unlocked!

Woot! Finally got my much coveted Diamondback portrait 2.5 long years after Starcraft 2's release. Feels good YEAH! Farmed 486 wins over 1099 games in 2v2 Bronze league like mad in order to get this achievement in time for 20/12/2012 hehehe. Played a whopping one third of my total career games this season too. I'll definitely remember 2012 Season 5 for this feat!

DCUO - 25th Century Communicator

The 25th Century Communicator is a loyalty reward for legendary members! It can be claimed from your marketplace tab as long as you have an active legendary subscription as of 10th Dec 2012. This trinket gives a 5% health buff for 30 seconds and summons Servo, a cool security robot (who can attack your enemies) much like Booster Gold's sidekick, Skeets. The one thing I like most about Servo is his chatty one-liners. THANK YOU DC/SOE FOR THIS WONDERFUL PRESENT!

DCUO - Snowman form trinket

OMG! I just got the cool Snowman Form trinket from the vault today! Hohoho! It also drops from the holiday event as well as from challenges, duos, and alerts.

On the Snowman form action bar are 5 skills:
1. Cold Breath
2. Boogie Bomb Barrage
3. Ice Ball
4. Snowball Spin
5. Winter Time
Skills 1 and 3 can be clipped with your 2 tap hold attack. Have fun!

Edit (29/12/12): Got a Snowman trinket for my hero alt after resetting the T1 challenge (Mannheim's Chinese Theater) 16 times. Spent about 200 replay badges.

A projection on how much each ship will cost in Star Citizen

The following is my projection on how much each ship will cost in Star Citizen based on a few facts and some assumptions.

Facts:
1. Ship insurance is going to be offered on a monthly basis and by definition, each ship needs to have its own insurance.
2. A basic monthly subscription at Centurion level starts at $10/mth.

Assumptions:
1. Ship insurance is going to be the main revenue source for the game
2. $1 in real life money = 1000 credits
3. To 'play' the game, players will need to be flying a ship which is insured.
4. The game will forbid players from flying ships which are not insured.
5. If a ship's current monthly insurance runs out, you will need to buy another monthly insurance for it.
6. Ship insurance is offered in multiples of 30 days, eg 30/60/90/120 days
7. Ship insurance needs to be relatively cheap, less than or equal to credits worth $15/mth = 15,000 credits/mth, based on prevailing standard MMO subscription rates of $15/mth.

Estimating the costs of each ship in in-game credits

Aurora
Looking at the Digital Scout package, it gives you an Aurora ship with 1000 credits and 2 months ship insurance, at a cost of $30. Based on a subscription model of $10/mth. 2 months ship insurance would be worth 2x$10 = $20. Why? Because I can fly the ship for 2 months, effectively allowing me to play the game for 2 months in that ship, equivalent to a Centurion level subscription for 2 months.
This would mean that the basic Aurora ship costs:
$30 (Digital scout package) - $20 (ship insurance) = $10 = 10,000 credits (assuming $1=1000 credits)

300i
Digital Bounty Hunter package gives you a 300i ship, 2000 credits, 4 months ship insurance, at a cost of $65.
This means the basic 300i ship (ignoring the 2k credits) costs:
$65 - $40 = $25 = 25,000 credits.

Hornet
Digital Colonel package gives a Hornet ship, 5000 credits, 6 months ship insurance, at a cost of $125.
This means the basic Hornet ship (ignoring the 5k credits) costs:
$125 - $60 = $65 = 65,000 credits.

Freelancer
Digital Freelancer package gives Freelancer ship, 5000 credits, 6 months ship insurance, at a cost of $125.
This means the basic Freelancer ship (ignoring the 5k credits) costs:
$125 - $60 = $65 = 65,000 credits.

Constellation
No digital package to compare with, so we look at the Rear Admiral package, which gives 10k credits, 6 months ship insurance.
This means the basic Constellation ship (ignoring the 10k credits) costs:
$275 - $60 - $15(shipping costs) = $200 = 200,000 credits.


Estimating the Real-Life money cost of lifetime insurance for digital add-on ships

Now, we know that pledge ships are also available as digital add-ons for people who pledged during the crowd-funding campaign. Working backwards with the data from above to find how much lifetime ship insurance for each ship is worth, we have:

Constellation: Available for $225 as digital add-on
In-game ship value: $200 = 200,000 credits
Hence estimated lifetime insurance = $225 - $200 = $25 = 25,000 credits

Freelancer: Available for $110 as digital add-on
In-game ship value: $65 = 65,000 credits
Hence estimated lifetime insurance = $110 - $65 = $45 = 45,000 credits

Hornet: Available for $110 as digital add-on
In-game ship value: $65 = 65,000 credits
Hence estimated lifetime insurance = $110 - $65 = $45 = 45,000 credits

300i: Available for $55 as digital add-on
In-game ship value: $25 = 25,000 credits
Hence estimated lifetime insurance = $55 - $25 = $30 = 30,000 credits

Aurora: Available for $25 as digital add-on
In-game ship value: $10 = 10,000 credits
Hence estimated lifetime insurance = $25 - $10 = 15,000 credits

These values can be used in estimating the costs of each limited-add-on ship for the digital add-on tiers below.

We will use the estimated lifetime insurance of $25 for the Constellation to find out the in-game costs for the limited-time-pledge ships below.

Alternative estimate:
Assuming lifetime insurance to be equal to 1 year of ship insurance (modeling this after DCUO where a lifetime subscription cost $200, at a monthly sub of $15/mth. Break-even point occurs at 13.3 months)
12 months ship insurance = $120
$1000 - $120 = $880
An Idris corvette will cost 880,000 credits.

Vanduul fighter: Available for $300 as digital add-on
*Estimated value in-game: $300 - $25 = $275 = 275,000 credits
Alternative estimate:
Assuming lifetime insurance equal to 12 months worth of ship insurance,
$300 - $120 - $180
A Vanduul fighter is worth $180, placing its ship value between a Hornet/Freelancer and a Constellation

* Based on an estimated lifetime insurance worth $25 = 25,000 credits

Star Citizen raises $6.2 million in crowd-funding! All Stretch Goals unlocked!

Woot! Congrats to Chris Roberts and his team at Cloud Imperium Games for raising $6.2 million dollars for their crowd-funding campaign for Star Citizen! Below is their Facebook posting on the final amount raised. Of the $6,238,563 raised, $4,104,189 was from the RSI website and $2,134,374 from Kickstarter. Total number of space sim fans: 89,667. It should be noted that this number is inflated because some people pledged on both RSI and Kickstarter, and the final number of supporters should be approximately between 55k to 89k.

Star Citizen

Those of you who played Wing Commander in the 1990s may remember Chris Roberts. He created Wing Commander and now he's back with a Kickstarter project called Star Citizen! Check out the Star Citizen Kickstarter webpage or Roberts Space Industries' Star Citizen Project for more details!


I'm really excited about Star Citizen and have already pledged $30 on its Kickstarter page. I'm still deciding whether to upgrade my pledge to get the Freelancer or the Constellation.

Cityville - Gardens of Babylon

Finally completed my Gardens of Babylon. It gives +100% boost to goods harvested from crops for 3 min.
Edit (04-11-12): This is my most-used wonder to date. It easily gives more bang for my buck compared to The Noveau. IE. the returns are better simply because I value goods more than coins. Why? My money pit is a coin multiplier while I have no comparable goods multiplier in-game.

DCUO - SOE Live DCUO Panel

Here are some quick notes from the SOE Live DCUO Panel on upcoming content as taken by Rom101 on the DCUO PC forums.

HOME TURF - DLC 6

Player Lairs
-Choose a floor plan...you can switch your plan to a different one, but that will change location.
-Can have more then 1 lair...house slots currently called "deeds".  You can have deeds in multiple places in Gotham and Metropolis.  You can even stack them all in the same slots.
-Lairs are bound to player, not account.  Deeds are player bound...but styles bought on marketplace will be account bound (currently the decission...things could change).
-Decorate your Lair (3 floorplans at launch...Industrial, Modern, Gothic)
--Free to play will get "Hide Out" at start...purchase to get to Lair
--Premium will be coming in marketplace coming after launch (including penthouse, sewer, etc)
--You have to choose location in city to start...will be a physical location in world to get into your lair.  Multiple people can have same spot, but won't share same lair.
--There will be very rare items to attain, but if you never get the drop, you can buy them on the broker (if posted)
--Will have a warp to feature with cooldown.

Decorate Lair
--Hundreds of prop styles that you can find "in the game"...not in marketplace at launch.  Will be tradable.
--Hybrid mode of attach points.  Click on points to bring up menu to bring up menu to show.
--Once you place enough items, you will unlock free placement mode to put things anywhere.
--There will be feats attached and rewards for gathering and placing a series of items.
--Placement restrictions have to do with pvp play in lairs

Access Amenities
--R&D Stations, mailboxes, bank access, etc...in amenities slots.
--These are attached to generators...the more powerful, the more amenities slots.
--Different floorplans will have themed generator styles (all technology themed...no magic or lantern themes at this time).
--There will be a currancy to pay for power for the generators, but will not be cash...not officially decided.

Lair Abilities
-- Upgrade your Mainframe (4 tracks)
--Some upgrades will allow you to have Allies & Followers (think sidekicks and minions)...terms aren't officially decided
---You can call in your ally to help you for a limited time...they also have progression
--Some upgrades will allow brother eye style to call in orbital strikes and supply drops (examples used)
---New style of research mode to help your build...will do various things including how your powers work.
---Level of research you are at determines what are available.
-Access new powers and abilties

Lair Duels
-1v1 battles in your lair or others
-Battle other Players
-Defend your lair
-Attach another lair
-Dramatic transitions
--Extended battles with several rounds..."best of" type of rounds...there will be cinegraphic cuts between rounds.
-Items/Lair will get trashed, but damage will be fixed after the end of the battle.
--No items pick-up and throw at first...just destroy
-You will queue up for Home Turf battle...random whether you get your lair or someone elses...so random if you are attacking or defending.
-This is the starter point for future Lair content.
--Future might include "defenses" but not in at lauch.

--Stryker's is being redone with dailies being moved.

DCUO - DLC6 Announced: Home Turf

Check out the official announcement on the DCUO website!

DLC 6 is called Home Turf and will introduce player housing in DCUO.
- Lairs will have a theme and a persistent entrance in Gotham City or Metropolis
- You can collect props (which are tradeable) while playing and use it to customize your Lair
- each Lair will have a Mainframe and a Generator. Mainframes provide passive abilities and active powers in combat to players which can be accessed via new trinkets. Generators provide access to facilities normally found in HQs and Safe Houses (I'm guessing: mail, repairs, vendors)
- Lair Battles: duel other players in their Lairs and have fun trashing their Lair to bits! This damage is temporary and will reset once the battle is over
- new solo daily missions inside/outside of Ace Chemicals, Stryker’s Island, Steelworks, and Arkham Asylum

Cityville - Super Hood

Managed to complete my Super Hood levels 1 and 2. Now trying to finish level 3. Collecting chocolate is a huge pain in the butt. The Super Hood is a neighbourhood which stores other neighbourhoods. There are 3 levels to it and each level stores 1 neighbourhood. Does not store neighbourhoods like the Super Solar Neighbourhood (SSN), the Famous Mall, and the Energy Saver Plaza (ESP). I'm guessing this is because these types of neighbourhoods already have relaxed restrictions on what type of building they can contain - at least for the SSN and the ESP - and they don't want to make the Super Hood too OP.

Edit (06-10-2012): Woot, finished my Super Hood level 3 today. Big thanks to the help obtained on Zynga.com. There's a bug though, can't staff the 3rd Block. This is a known issue as reported on the Zynga Cityville forum. Happy Chocolate Hunting pple!

Haven't played SC2 in a while. The UI has changed a bit since Patch 1.5. Besides the current number of games played this season, the default player summary page also shows your highest career finish in 1v1 games and in team games.
